   Rehab involves understanding the nature and extent of that athlete’s condition as well as knowing the specific physical demands of each sport. A treatment plan is then tailored to individual to help them recover lost motion, strength or function

Sports Medicine Principles

1. ASAP - Return the patient to full activity as possible without sacrificing that patient’s safety. This approach demands that the rehab team, consisting of the patient’s physician, physical therapist, athletic trainer and most importantly, the patient, work effectively and efficiently to achieve optimal results.
2. Functional progression - All patients are progressed thru the rehab process in a step by step process by building on previously attained goals.
3. Patient participation  - Rehabilitation is an active process requiring effort and commitment from the patient.  The therapist is there to establish an appropriate plan and guide the patient through the obstacles that may occur along the way.
4. Return to play criteria - Athletes must pass physical tests of their readiness to return to sport. All patients must exhibit enough improvement in their condition to return to the physical demands of safely before they are discharged from formal treatment.
